For all those who love partaking in the all-American barbeque past-time, here are some gourmet grilling tips to keep your food flavorful, delicious, and healthy all in one perfect package.
- Keep the grilling time short for less carcinogens to form. The less blackened the food gets, the less carcinogens are formed.
- Use smaller pieces of meat when cooking so that the meat cooks faster.
- Marinate, marinate, and marinate your food before putting it on the grill. The better coating of love the food has, the better flavor that will be soaked up and the less carcinogens the food will get on the grill.
- Grandpa Zaninovich’s Brandy Marinade: 8 oz soy sauce, 4 oz water, 4 oz brandy, 1 Tbsp olive oil, 2 cloves crushed garlic, 2 Tbsp minced ginger. Mix & add to 1-2 pounds of meat or veggies.
- Dijon Mustard Marinade: 4 Tbsp Dijon mustard, 1 Tbsp olive oil, 4 Tbsp white wine vinegar, 4 oz water, 1 crushed garlic clove, 1 stick crushed rosemary, salt/pepper to taste. Mix and add to 1-2 pounds of meat or veggies.
- Skip the meat and add the veggies to your grill. Try grilling tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, red or green bell peppers, red onions, or more. By simply drizzling the veggies with some olive oil, the veggies will get caramelized from the grill and have a delicious taste.
- Fruit on the grill – oh yes! Grill figs soaking in a balsamic marinade. Grill pineapple and eat with your meal or as dessert. Grill peaches, pears, nectarines, or plums and get the exquisite flavors of the natural sugar from the fruit caramelizing and melting in your mouth. Talk about a delectable dessert!
