Author | Sarah Koszyk, Registered Dietitian with MV Nutrition I hear countless people tell me their 2012 New Year’s Resolutions are: “I’m going to lose weight and eat better in 2012!” Now, I’m all for setting nutritious goals all year round. But these goals usually don’t get achieved because they are too broad and vast. So year after year, I hear the same people saying the same resolutions with no results.
Get results today by setting yourself up with S.M.A.R.T. nutritious goals:
- Specific (you need details)
- Measurable (something you can count to keep you on track)
- Attainable (attitude and the right plan will get you to your goal)
- Realistic (something you are willing to do that works with your lifestyle)
- Timely (get that timeframe going)
A great way to “eat better” in 2012 is to take time to shop, cook, and prepare your food from home. Set some (or all) of these S.M.A.R.T. goals for your self. Make sure the goals are realistic for your lifestyle and schedule and you will attain your ultimate “eating better” health goal:
GOAL: I will go grocery shopping every Sunday so that I have the healthy food available to eat for my breakfast, meals, and snacks.
GOAL: I will cook 2 meals a week that will provide leftovers for 2 days: Cook 1 meal on Sunday. Cook 1 meal on Tuesday. This way I have dinner for 4 nights.
GOAL: I will prep my snacks for the week on Sunday so that I have 10 healthy & delicious snacks available to eat (especially that necessary afternoon snack when I’m craving the office junk food).
