It is a smart investment to purchase a high quality water filter.  Tap water contains unwanted chemicals, pharmaceuticals, bacterial pathogens and heavy metals. We recommend a reverse osmosis or carbon filter for both drinking and shower water. Bathing in tap water and breathing in the steam is harmful to your health. Chlorine will be absorbed through the skin and the steam vapor will go straight into your lungs.  This is why we stay away from chlorinated pools and hot tubs.  It is also a good idea to drink water or fluids that are room temperature, cold fluids must be warmed by your system before the body will uptake and hydrate you, drinking cold water will not keep you hydrated during your workout.

Use a re-usable water bottle

Worldwide we currently consume over 200 billion bottles of water per year with the majority of this ending up in landfills. Recycling is an unnecessary energy and resource expense when a simpler option available is to have a re-usable bottle.  We love to use glass bottles.  For instance re-using Voss bottle or any glass bottle that you may like the feel of is a great way to save Mother Earth.  Another option is a high quality food grade stainless steel bottle like Klean Kanteen.  Please stay away from plastic bottles as they leach unwanted chemicals into your water, which have been shown to disturb your body’s hormonal balance.

Drink ½ of your body weight in ounces of water daily

Even mild dehydration decreases performance and places unnecessary stress on your body. Drink ½ of your body weight in ounces of water daily.  For example 150 pounds = 68 oz. a day. Adding a small pinch of unrefined sea salt to filtered water will add back in the minerals needed for effective osmotic transfer- getting water into the cell. Adding minerals to your water and spreading water intake throughout the entire day will avoid excessive urination. Having water no less than 30mins before and after meals will allow for better digestion. The easiest way we have found to get clients to remember to drink enough water is to buy a 1.2ltr or 2ltr Klean Kanteen or a large glass bottle to fill up each morning.  Start your morning with a rinse out of your mouth before drinking water, most people breath through their mouth as they sleep, your mouth then becomes a filter for bacteria, mold, toxins and viruses, after you rinse drink 2 glasses of water, finish the bottle content and have one more glass of water when you get home, you will have met your daily requirement for hydration.

Processed fruit juices, soft drinks, alcohol and caffeinated beverages will further dehydrate you and should always be consumed on a full stomach. On the days you consume these extras, increase your water intake.

Caffeine of any sort is best limited to 1 per day ideally before 1pm

Unrefined sea salt – Celtic sea salt or pink Himalayan salt

Have an Epsom salt bath 1-3x per week

Having a bath in filtered water with 2 cups of Epsom salts is a great way to release tension.  For the Epsom salts to have the optimal muscle relaxation effect, it is best to enjoy your bath for 20mins.  Try using your bath time to do a breathing meditation.  After your bath do you’re stretching and chi exercises.  Having your bath in the evening is a great way to help your mind and body relax and get into a peaceful place for a great sleep.
