Commit to Fit | Week 29
While I don't want to seem unappreciative of all the positive feedback I've been receiving from everyone about my weight loss, there are moments where all the negativity people feel toward obesity really seems to come to the surface. Here's a list of my least favorite things that I've heard people say to me since I started losing weight, and my reaction to them.
(1) You must feel like you're getting your life back!
I had a life before I was losing weight, actually.
(2) You are going to be so handsome!
I'm handsome now and was before, thanks.
(3) Losing the weight is easy...it's *keeping it off* that's hard.
Oh really? And you know it's easy because YOU have lost 73 pounds lately? Thank you for minimizing my accomplishment.
(4) Are you going to eat the way you're eating even after you've reached your goal weight, or are you planning to go back to the way you used to eat?
I understand that sometimes after people lose weight, they often gain some back. But does anyone *plan* to gain weight back? No. Of course not. (Why would you ask someone that?)
Another thing I often hear is "You must feel so much better about yourself." While I do not take offense at this the way I might the four statements above, I think it's a funny question from anyone who's known me, because I've always been pretty full of myself. I mean, c'mon... I'm an actor!
